The first annual Grey Mare Society trail ride to benefit the fight against breast cancer was held on October 14, 2006. Seventy seven riders from three states brought their horses to Ride the Trail to a Cure through the Michaux forest at Mont Alto, PA. After an eight mile ride, the riders enjoyed a hot lunch and prizes were awarded for the longest distance traveled and for the levels of sponsorship.
Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia riders rode forthe PA Breast Cancer Coalition and Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley. Over $10,000 was raised for these two organizations for research, education and support for victims and survivors and their families.
The success of this event is due to the riders who participated and the donors who sponsored them. The Grey Mare Society sincerely appreciates their effort. We also thank Penn State Mont Alto, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Tractor Supply Company, Wolfs Bakery, Five Forks Fruit, the Rhonda Brake Shreiner Womens Center, Roush Equine, Value City and the many others who contributed and worked to make this event happen.
