Welcome

Welcome

Linda and GabbyIn 2006 The Grey Mare Society (our group of ladies over 50 who ride together) decided to combine a fall trail ride with raising funds to fight breast cancer. We thought that rather than riding for a national organization, we would support organizations that directly help the breast cancer victims in our area. So we organized a trail ride to benefit The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley. I am a survivor and am personally aware of how much good both of these groups do. Their web sites are in the links to the left.

We were astounded by the response in 2006, and the 2007 ride more than doubled the money we raised in 2006. The 2008 and 2009 rides were in Michaux Forest at Mont Alto, and again we are so very thankful for the response of the riders and their sponsors.  Please go to the links at the left for pictures and information about the rides.  If you were a participant, your picture may be included.

Our 2010 Ride is tentatively scheduled for September 25 in Michaux Forest.  Check this web site closer to the date for more information.

If you are interested in coming to our 2010 Ride or if your club would like to have a ride to support a state or local breast cancer organization, please contact us through the Contact Us button and we will send you information.

The 2010 Harrisburg World Horse Expo is February 26 through the 28th.  At last year's Expo The Pennsylvania Equine Council (PEC) supported breast cancer awareness and the Ride the Trail to a Cure.  The interest was phenomenal, and PEC will be wearing pink shirts again this year and Ride the Trail to a Cure will be there.  Please stop by to visit and get information on our Rides.

As trail riders and members, we appreciate the mission of the PEC: "The overall goals and aims of the PEC are to make it easier, more affordable, safer and more enjoyable to own equines and participate in equestrian sports in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."

"To be effective, the PEC needs to hear from, garner support from and be able to communicate with all the state's horse owners. Pennsylvania ranks fourth in the United States in numbers of horses -- our numbers are large and impressive. If we work together, we can ensure a healthy industry with the infrastructure, laws and protection we need to make Pennsylvania a great place to own and ride horses for generations to come."
